Results from The 4th Annual Junior Vasquez 3W Tournament

The fourth annual Junior Vasquez tournament turned to be one of the best outdoor, small ball, three-wall event in a long time, for Southern California. The fans were treated to a classic 11-10 tie breaker open finals between Vince Munoz and Marcos Chavez against Eddie Chapa and partner Eddie Silverya. After winning the first game the Eddies were 10 points behind in the second game when they staged a comeback to 20-20 only to lose. In the tie breaker it looked like a blow out when the Eddies built a lead of 7-1. But Vince and Marcos were not ready to fold just yet. From that point the scored 9 points in a roll making the score 10-7 their favor. Vince and Marcos would have 5 tries to close out the game but were turned down by the Eddies each time. At 10-10 the Eddies closed out the game.

The tournament had great hospitality, with food and drinks all day. The weather was perfect. $ 2,550 was given out in prize money to all finalist in all categories including the C division. All the Juniors received free Eye Guards, Handball gloves, USHA head bands and winners received $50 gift certificates for shoes, trophies and gym bags for second place. The money was provided by generous handball players who contributed to the tournament in order to promote the sport and give back to the game they love. Contributors (forgive me if I forget anyone) Tom Serrato of Far West meats who donated the meat and cooked all day Saturday, Larry Borunda of El-Boston transmissions who donated the tee shirts and gave money, Omar from Sign Waves stereo systems who donated a stereo system and installation to raffle out, the LA Athletic club made a large donation, Tom Kopp of Owens gloves gave the Juniors free gloves and contributed money. Other generous money donners were, Mike Salgado, Mark Zamora, Tom Martinez, Joel Kirschenstein, Abel Carrillo, Terry O' Reilly, Jimmy Mendoza, Mike Kogan, Roy Harvey, Greg Tomasyan, Steve Megahilos, Bo Kennelly, and last but not least Octavio ( Tavo ) Martinez.
